# Import

Import is a grouping of tools. These tools represent datasets being brought on to the workflow canvas. Importing one or more datasets is generally the first thing a user will do in a new workflow. As a general rule, import tools sit on the left side of a workflow canvas.

Bring your data into an Analytics workflow with an Import tool. Import data from a flat file (CSV or XLSX) by adding the [Import File](https://docs.auditboardanalytics.com/tools/import/import-file) tool to your canvas. For those getting started, the [Import Sample Data](https://docs.auditboardanalytics.com/tools/import/import-sample-data) tool is a great way to grab a quick, test dataset.
